I grew up surrounded by the rich colors, intricate patterns, and vibrant culture of my homeland, Ghana. From a young age, I was inspired by the powerful stories of heritage, strength and beauty in the women around me - from motherhood to the corporate office, these fierce women were unapologetically themselves . What captivated me the most was the way they showed up to any and all occasions, adorned in bold elegant pieces that captured the essence of who they were.

My desire to leave this legacy to my own daughter led me on a journey of discovery into the world of jewelry. I found myself in a world saturated with jewelry that often felt impersonal and devoid of the essence I cherished from home. It was during this journey that I decided to create a jewelry brand with pieces that resonate with women at a deeper level.

Names are an incredibly important part of our identity, and the name OBA is no different.  Born through the evolution and rebirth of our brand, OBA is inspired, both by our multi-ethnic life and by our original name, Jewels By Afia(JBA). The word OBA means ruler in the Yoruba language (Nigeria). With an added A suffix, OBAA means “woman” in the Akan language (Ghana). Thus, our name depicts the powerful connection between the beauty of womanhood and the power with which modern women rule their everyday lives with grit and confidence.
